ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Seniors and Disability provide a range of quality, direct services to the Cumberland community to promote social inclusion, enhance quality of life and increase capacity for seniors and people with disability to participate in the community whilst maintaining overall wellbeing and independence.

The team are focused on the delivery of Cumberland’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022-2026, the creation of more livable places and inclusive communities, recognising the rights and contributions of people with disability and championing diversity within the Cumberland community.

In contributing to the overarching vision, the Social Inclusion Transport Assistant will assist with administrative tasks to ensure social outings and activities are provided in an efficient and effective manner according to funding guidelines. The Social Inclusion Transport Assistant is also responsible for providing safe and reliable transport for Seniors, people with a disability and members of the community and ensuring that the vehicles driven are clean and safe for passengers and that any issues are communicated with their supervisor.

The successful applicant will require:

  • Certificate in Welfare, Aged or Disability Work, Leisure Studies or related fields or equivalent experience
  • Class LR (Light Rigid) drivers licence
  • Bus Driver Authority, public passenger bus or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to relate to seniors, people with disability and their carers
  • Experience operating a wheelchair accessible vehicle
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to work as part of a team, be flexible and have good organisational skills
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.

Position information: This is a term contract, part-time position (up to 30 June 2024) with possibility of extension, working a 68 hour fortnight.

This role will be required to work across multiple locations within the Cumberland Local Government Area (LGA) with the main starting point for the bus service located at the Guildford Community Centre.

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 8 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $36.89 to $42.42 per hour, plus 11% superannuation.
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role.

Council fully supports the aims and objectives of NSW Child Protection Legislation, and associated provisions, and will implement all necessary measures to ensure a safe and supportive environment, which endeavours to promote child protection practices. It is essential for applicants to submit their WWCC number with their application, if required, and it is an offence under NSW legislation for barred workers to apply for or otherwise attempt to obtain, undertake or remain in child-related employment.
