ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The City Open Spaces team manages the daily presentation and maintenance of Council’s open spaces, sportsgrounds, playgrounds, passive and public spaces, golf courses, botanical gardens and native vegetation areas within the Cumberland City Area, ensuring that our residents and visitors have access to quality and attractive open spaces of which they can be proud and enjoy.

The Team Leader - Bush Regenerator role will undertake a range of specialist natural area management activities that will guide the maintenance of bushland and natural assets. This role will ensure that open spaces are in excellent condition, safe and suitable for use by the community. 

The successful applicant will have:

  • Certificate III or IV in Conservation and Land Management
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in preparation of natural area site plans and work schedules  
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate resources and undertake bush regeneration activities across a variety of sites, experience on Cumberland Plain highly regarded
  • Proven ability to effectively lead, supervise and co-ordinate team members and external contractors in the delivery of maintenance and project works across a multiple of sites
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends, industry best-practice and new developments relating to natural area management and bush regeneration activities.
  • Demonstrated experience in operating small plant and equipment, including small hand tools, and power tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal in a positive and courteous manner with the public and other staff whilst providing leadership to others
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills – ability to write clearly and neatly when completing necessary paperwork
  • Ability to work as part of a team and with contractors, having good interpersonal skills
  • Sound knowledge and practical application of WH&S principles and the Work Health and Safety legislation
  • Sound Computer Skills and ability to adapt to new systems and operate a range of devices including ipads
  • Current chainsaw accreditation
  • Hold a current Class MR drivers Licence (or willing to obtain)
  • Hold a current ‘ChemCert’ (Chemical Handling) qualification
  • Hold a current General Induction for Construction Work in NSW  (white card).
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate.

Position information: There is a permanent, full-time position on offer, working a 70 hour fortnight, with access to Council's 9 day fortnight Rostered Day Off (RDO) arrangement. The hours of work are from 6:30am to 3:00pm. 

This role is predominantly located at Council's Auburn Depot, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations.

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 8 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,291.32 to $1,485.02 per week, plus 11% superannuation
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
