ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Environmental and Development Services team monitor public health related businesses who provide food and beauty services to the community, along with places of public access such as public swimming pools, making sure they are safe for the Cumberland Council residents. This team is also responsible for regulating compliance throughout the LGA ensuring that amenity and general safety is achieved, monitoring building compliance and fire safety. All of these services allow residents and visitors to the area to enjoy and feel safe within our Council area.

The Coordinator Environmental Health will oversee the day to day operations of the Environmental Health Team within allocated staff and budgetary constraints. The Coordinator Environmental Health will oversee a broad range of functions covering the key service areas including the management and overall accountability for all health and environment related matters inclusive of environmental compliance and health inspections. This position will report directly to the Manager Environmental Health and Development Services and as such will need to be a high level problem solver assisting with any environmental health related enquiries coming up with solutions to achieve a satisfactory outcomes. 

The successful applicant will require:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental health or a related discipline and demonstrated leadership skills
  • Demonstrated experience operating in high quality service based environment with a focus on ensuring valuable and quality outcomes for communities
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning and management of substantial budgets, with view to ensuring robust forward planning and effective project delivery
  • Advanced written and exemplary verbal communication skills
  • Experience in dealing with a Senior Management Team, including the preparation of reports, delivery of presentations, and provision of advice on a range of matters
  • Proven ability to work productively as a member of a senior leadership team and actively contribute to the achievement of shared goals
  • Extensive operational knowledge of legislation (Acts, Regulations and supporting Guidelines/Standards/Codes) 
  • Experience in the supervision of staff, including their professional development, performance management and reporting against set benchmarks
  • Class C drivers licence.

About this role: 

  • Permanent, full-time position
  • 35 hour week
  • Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO)arrangement
  • Located at Council's Merrylands office, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 15 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $2,431.42 to $2,796.14 per week, plus 11.5% superannuation
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
