ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Cumberland City Council is proud to offer a Cadetship with our Internal Ombudsman Shared Service (IOSS) in line with the 'fresh start for local government apprentices, trainees and cadets' in conjunction with the NSW Government. This cadetship offers a combination of on-the-job work experience combined with the completion of your university degree.
The Cadet - Internal Ombudsman Shared Service is responsible for undertaking activities that will assist in ensuring and promoting awareness of Council's responsibilities to the public in complying with the law and best practice in governance and administrative practice. The Internal Ombudsman Shared Service works across three Councils – the City of Parramatta, Cumberland City and Inner West Councils. The service responds to escalated complaints about Council services and undertakes proactive measures through the provision of advice, education, training and other awareness raising activities.
The successful applicant will require:
- Currently enrolled in a university degree relating to law, business administration or equivalent
- Demonstrated ability to deal in a positive and courteous manner with the public and other workers
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Possess good administrative and organisational skills, including attention to detail, ability to maintain accurate records and skills in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work as part of a team with good interpersonal skills
- Understanding of equal employment opportunities, workplace health and safety and ethical practice principles and the ability to act with probity at all times
- Behaviour that positively demonstrates the values of the member Councils and compliance with the Code of Conduct and the member Councils' policies and procedures.

About this role:
- 1 x term contract, full-time or part-time position for a period of up to 24 months
- 35 hour week, working from 8:30am to 4:30pm
- Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO) arrangement
- Located at Council's Internal Ombudsman Shared Service office in Auburn, and may be required to work across any of the three (3) Council's work locations.
Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.
- This position is placed in Cumberland's Trainee Salary Structure with a salary of $1,206.92 per week, plus a wages margin allowance and 11.5% superannuation
