Council’s Animal Control Attendant contributes to providing a safe and healthy community by ensuring the provisions of the Companion Animals Act 1998 and Regulations are complied with. The role will give consideration to Council’s Companion Animals Policy, in balancing enforcement and education approaches to issues that may arise.


The role is part of a team that provides an effective animal shelter with emphasis on reuniting companion animals to their owners, rehousing companion animals, animal care and providing a hygienic facility. This position is predominately animal shelter duties. 

The successful applicant will require:

  • Experience in handling of companion animals
  • Customer service experience including problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision 
  • Current NSW drivers licence

About this role: 

  • Permanent, full-time position
  • 70 hour fortnight
  • Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Rostered Day Off (RDO) arrangement
  • Located at Council's Auburn Depot, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 5 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,155.35 to $1,328.66 per week,  plus 12% superannuation, (please note this salary range and superannuation percentage will apply from the first pay period in July 2025)  
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role

What you'll need to have for this role:

  • The right to live and work in Australia
  • Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
  • Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council’s Health Monitoring Procedure, as required
  • Provide evidence of your vaccination status as part of the employment screening process, in accordance with Council’s COVID-19 Vaccination Procedure.
