ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Council’s Aquatic and Leisure department sits within the Assets, Capital and Facilities business unit that forms part of the City Services directorate that focuses and is responsible for the beautification of the Cumberland LGA. Cumberland City Council owns and operates five (5) Aquatic and Leisure Centres across the LGA which provide aquatic, leisure and wellness programs and services to our community.

In contributing to the overarching vision, the Yoga Instructor is responsible for delivering safe, inclusive and engaging yoga classes for a diverse community. The role contributes to Cumberland Council's vision of enhancing community wellbeing through accessible and inclusive wellness programs. This role requires a commitment to promoting physical and mental wellbeing in a supportive and respectful environment. 

The successful applicant will require:

  • Certificate or qualification in Yoga Instruction  
  • Current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • Current First Aid
  • Current CPR Certificate
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Sound knowledge of safe exercise principles and injury prevention 
  • Demonstrated experience delivering Yoga classes in group or individual settings 
  • Comprehensive understanding of Yoga principles and body alignment 
  • Ability to adapt programs and sessions for various ages, fitness levels, injuries and physical limitations of participants
  • Strong understanding of exercise science, functional movement and injury prevention 
  • Effective time management and organisational skills

About this role: 

  • Casual position
  • Located at Council's Aquatic Centres, with occasional travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 8 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $39.33 to $48.18 per hour (plus casual loading), plus 12% superannuation
  • Weekend penalty rates apply in accordance with the Local Government Award
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role

What you'll need to have for this role:

  • The right to live and work in Australia
  • Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
  • Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council’s Health Monitoring Procedure, as required.
