ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Libraries team operate eight (8) locations across the Cumberland LGA and assist customers and members of the public with locating materials, answering questions and providing guidance on research strategies.  

The team also hold a wide variety of events across these locations, ranging from educational and cultural programs to social and community-building activities.

The Senior Library Team Member is responsible for carrying out customer service duties efficiently and professionally, and to provide high quality customer service to both internal and external library customers. This role will also be the officer in charge during the hours that they are working ensuring all staff adhere to the libraries policies and procedures. You will have the opportunity to assist customers in accessing library resources whilst participating in running of activities including children's story time and adult classes. 

The successful applicant will require:

  • Diploma of Library and Information Services or relevant qualification 
  • Eligible for Library Technician membership of ALIA
  • Experience in a library environment 
  • Well-developed literacy, numeracy and oral communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team
  • Experience in using computers and the internet in a professional environment
  • Valid Working with Children Check

About this role: 

  • 1x Permanent part-time position
  • Working 40 hours per fortnight on the following roster:

Week 1

    • Monday: 11:00am to 8:00pm with a 60 minute unpaid meal break (Granville Library)
    • Friday: 3:00pm to 6:00pm (Merrylands Library)
    • Saturday: 9:00am to 4:00pm with a 60 minute unpaid meal break (Wentworthville Library)
    • Sunday: 1:00pm to 4:00pm (Wentworthville Library)

Week 2

    • Tuesday: 5:00pm to 8:00pm (Auburn Library)
    • Thursday : 3:00pm - 8:00pm (Guildford Library)
    • Friday: 3:00pm to 6:00pm  (Merrylands Library)
    • Saturday: 9:00am - 4:00pm with a 60 minute unpaid meal break (Wentworthville Library)
    • Sunday: 1:00pm to 4:00pm (Wentworthville Library)

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 8 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a hourly rate of $39.33 to $48.18 per hour plus 12% superannuation
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role

  • The right to live and work in Australia
  • Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
  • Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council’s Health Monitoring Procedure, as required.
