ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Place and Economy team sits within the Environment and Planning Directorate to facilitate, collaborate and listen to the community to embed its voice and values to shape how we live, work and play through the enhancement of public spaces and the development of Cumberland’s economy. The team is responsible for promoting, supporting and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders within Cumberland City Council. 

We have an exciting opportunity within our Place and Economy team for a dynamic Coordinator City Economy and Investment who will strategically develop and implement local projects that support the growth and development of a strong and diverse business and commercial environment in Cumberland, elevate the profile of the local business sector and industries within Cumberland, and generate local and regional employment. This role has a focus on growing Cumberland’s local economy to facilitate more local employment and investment. 

Reporting to the Manager Place and Economy, this role liaises with local businesses, industry groups, and investors to build networks, connect to opportunities, and provide a dedicated business concierge service supporting business growth and retention in the Cumberland Local Government area. The Coordinator City Economy and Investment will play an active role in raising the profile of Cumberland as a competitive, connected, and investment-ready destination through collaboration, strategic partnerships, sponsorships, and promotion.

The successful applicant will require:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Economics, Marketing, Social Science, Tourism, Urban Planning, or a related field
  • Excellent written communication, research skills, and high level interpersonal and networking skill and highly proficient research and data analysis skills 
  • Strong project management skills with the demonstrated ability to deliver multiple projects concurrently on time and within budget 
  • Proven experience in the field of economic development, city marketing, investment and/or place making including the delivery of business development support and assistance programs
  • Knowledge of the local business and economic environment, economic challenges, emerging trends, and opportunities
  • Demonstrated experience in working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Demonstrated experience in providing a superior level of customer service
  • High level computer literacy, particularly in the MS Office suite of product
  • Current Class C driver's licence
  • Valid Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain)

About this role: 

  • Permanent, full-time position
  • 70 hour fortnight
  • Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO)
  • Located at Council's Auburn office, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 14 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $2,303.00 to $2,648.45 per week, plus 12% superannuation
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
  • Car allowance of $11,608.48 per annum or a leaseback vehicle

What you'll need to have for this role:

  • The right to live and work in Australia
  • Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
  • Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council’s Health Monitoring Procedure, as required.
