ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The City Open Spaces team manages the daily presentation and maintenance of Council’s open spaces, sportsgrounds, playgrounds, passive and public spaces, golf courses, botanical gardens and native vegetation areas within the Cumberland City Area, ensuring that our residents and visitors have access to quality and attractive open spaces of which they can be proud and enjoy.

We have an exciting opportunity within our City Open Spaces team for a Public Tree Officer who will assist in tree related works across the Cumberland LGA. 

The successful applicant will require:

  • Formal qualification in Cert III in Arborculture with 5 years experience in arboricultural.
  • Demonstrated practical experience in the tree management and maintenance field
  • Knowledge of industry best practice and issues in tree management and maintenance
  • Proficient in the use of computers with the ability to use various software
  • Strong communication and writing skills with the ability to effectively complete relevant administration tasks associated with the position including the preparation of correspondence, documents, and reports
  • Proven ability to develop collaborative relationships with peers, customers and community organisations and an ability to work as part of a team with good interpersonal skills
  • Be able to demonstrate a strong customer focus with sound customer service skills and the ability to embrace a system of change and continual improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently plan for and meet timelines
  • Display conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence
  • General Construction Induction Card (White card)
  • Current Working Safely Near Live Electrial Apparatus as a Non-Electrical Worker accreditation.

About this role: 

  • Permanent, full-time position
  • 70 hour fortnight
  • Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Rostered Day Off (RDO) arrangement
  • Located at Council's Guildford Depot, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 10 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,631.25 to $1,875.94 per week, plus 12% superannuation
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
  • Leaseback vehicle 

What you'll need to have for this role:

  • The right to live and work in Australia
  • Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
  • Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council’s Health Monitoring Procedure, as required.
